The documentary tells the story of Thai Thi Lien (Madame Lien) as the driving force for classical and indigenous music education in Vietnam. Madame Lien's passion for music transcended all odds - as did her son, renowned concert pianist Dang Thai Son. They are known in Vietnam as the first family of classical music.

Madame Lien overcame incredible obstacles to her very survival, let alone the creation of high art. Beyond a Vietnam War story, The Cannon and the Flower is a tale of the triumph of art over to heal and bring together people in the face of the forces of violence and deprivation.

The Cannon and the Flower will bring the story of Thai Thi Lien and her remarkable family to American audiences for the first time.
